The President, Vice President and Youth President express solidarity with Cameroon

30 October 2020

The President, Vice President and Youth President have written to the Head of the Council of the Protestant Church in Cameroon to express shock and solidarity after students were shot dead in Kumba

FAO The Rev Fonki Forba
Head of the Council of Protestant Church in Cameroon

We are writing to you, our sisters and brothers in Christ, to express our concern, solidarity and support in the aftermath of the appalling massacre of the young students in Kumba last Saturday.

We were horrified to read of the events of that day which have left so many families devastated and the wider community searching for answers. The young people who were brutally murdered, and those who witnessed the attacks, were innocent victims in this senseless act and we pray that God will comfort those who mourn and give strength to those who strive for peace.

Please be assured of the prayers of the Methodist people in Britain for the children and young people affected, the wider community and for Cameroon as a nation. May the peace of God that surpasses all understanding be with you all at this time of mourning and may the pursuit for peace in Cameroon through dialogue end this ongoing crisis.

The Revd Richard Teal, President of the Methodist Conference
Carolyn Lawrence, Vice President of the Methodist Conference
Phoebe Parkin, Youth President 2020/2021
