Vocations Sunday

As disciples of Jesus Christ we are called into being, called to life in abundance, called to love, called to follow, called to be the best that we can be. God calls all of us into different roles, some within the Church and others outside it. Vocations Sunday on 12 May is a great time to ask people to give their testimony. Resources are available to help you plan a time of worship with a vocations theme.

3Generate registration

This year 3Generate is from 22 – 24 November at Pontins, Southport and registration is now open. Groups of under 18s must register (to buy tickets) by 7 June. If you are 18 – 23 years old, you should register here insteadOnce registered, groups/over-18s will be emailed a link to buy tickets on 12 June. Ticket prices for children and youth (8 – 23 years old) will be £120 per person, with accompanying leaders, free. Register leaders here. For more information, visit the web page.

MEP Elections

The European elections are due to take place in the UK on 23 May 2019.The Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT) has published a briefing to encourage church members to engage with the upcoming European elections. The JPIT briefing includes a prayer for use in the run-up to the election and other prayer suggestions and information.

MWiB training bursaries

Bursaries from Methodist Women in Britain (MWiB) are currently available to enable women to undertake training courses offered by Cliff College. Courses include: ‘The Cliff Year’, ‘Certificate in Women in Leadership’ and ‘Every Woman: Ruth’. Course details and application forms are available here.

Death and Dying Awareness Week

Every year, Dying Matters and their coalition members host an Awareness Week, which is from 13 – 19 May. The theme is ‘Are We Ready?’ and they’ve created a wide range of resources to help people start conversations about dying, death and bereavement.

Media support

The Communications team are looking at how they can best support the Connexion. If your district, circuit or church has anyone with direct responsibility for communications activity, please email mediaoffice@methodistchurch.org.uk with their contact information and details of their role.

Internship Opportunity

The Archbishop of Canterbury’s newly established Commission on Housing is recruiting for a one-year fixed-term entry-level internship. The role is aimed at 21 – 26 year olds and will be from 11 September 2019 – 30 August 2020. The role is located at Church House, Westminster, 35 hours per week and the salary is £21,000 per annum.

Deadline for applications: 12pm, 12 June 2019. Interviews: 26 June 2019.

Youth Sports Gathering

The Youth Sports Gathering, 3 – 11 August 2019 in Sunderland, will provide 24 young people, aged 16 – 25 the opportunity to meet and develop sports coaching, faith sharing and youth work skills. This event is delivered as a partnership between the Methodist Children, Youth and Family Team, Sunderland Samba FC and the European Methodist Youth and Children’s Council. National Estate Churches Network

Bookings for the National Estate Churches Network Conference on 18 June in Bradford Cathedral are now open. It will be a day of sharing wisdom and stories from estate churches and projects around the country, including an address by Methodist Youth President, Jasmine Yeboah, who grew up on an estate in London.  

One Programme opportunities

One Programme are hiring. There are 11 paid roles available across the country open to people ages 16 – 23 These part time jobs will allow applicants to have an input in a local church or project, with training provided See website for more details.

Reflections

In the coming week, the 2018/2019 Methodist Prayer Handbook, ‘A World Transformed, encourages us to pray with Christians in the Caribbean, Asia and the Americas, as well as Britain and Ireland.
