Volunteer for 3Generate

Around 1,200 young people will be attending this year’s 3Generate, the Methodist Children and Youth Assembly, taking place in Southport over the weekend 22-24 November. To ensure 3Generate’s continued success, organisers are looking to recruit extra volunteers. Find out more here.

Churches support families facing hunger

There is growing evidence that Universal Credit is increasing holiday hunger. Churches are preparing to support thousands of families this summer. Highlighted by the Trussell Trust’s submission to the Parliamentary Select Committee enquiry, you can read the JPIT response here.

Certificate in Parenting for Faith

The Certificate in Parenting for Faith is a new certificate short course held at Cliff College for the 2019-2020 academic year. This certificate was developed in partnership with The Bible Reading Fellowship. The teaching week will be delivered 1 – 5 June 2020. Details of the course can be found here.

Methodist and nonconformist chapels
in Cornwall

Historic England, in collaboration with Cornwall Council and the Methodist Church, has produced guidance to help congregations, new owners and professional advisers make informed decisions about how to adapt and make changes to nonconformist chapels. Details are available here.

The Methodist Conference

If you were unable to attend the Conference this year, or want to catch up on a particular item of business, you can watch sessions online here. These will be available to stream through the website until 4 August. Worship services and addresses will be available indefinitely.

Choose Childhood

Action for Children are launching their Choose Childhood report and campaign to mark their 150th anniversary. Every child deserves a safe and happy childhood. Yet, there are too many children in care and more children are being identified as at risk. Join them in urging the government to commit to a national plan for children now.

Hull Heritage Weekend

Hull Heritage Weekend will take place on 21 September. Clowes Memorial Methodist Church will be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm. At 11.00am and 2.00pm there will be a short talk on William Clowes by the Revd Martin Batstone followed by a drama performed by the Hull Community Theatre. The church is wheelchair accessible and refreshments will be served.

Queen Eleanor Cycle Ride

The Queen Eleanor Cycle Ride is an annual sponsored event to raise funds to support The Connection at St Martin’s, working with homeless and vulnerable people in central London. The ride takes place over the August bank holiday, 23 – 26 August. If you are interested in joining, you can find more details here.

Thursday video: Choose Childhood

Every child deserves a safe and happy childhood. But in the UK, children are saying that childhood is hurting. Action for Children is urging the government to commit to a plan that ensures every child has a safe and happy childhood.

Reflections

In the coming week, the 2018/2019 Methodist Prayer Handbook, ‘A World Transformed, encourages us to pray with Christians in East Asia, the Pacific and Europe, as well as Britain and Ireland. The theme for next week’s A Word in Time Bible studies is ‘Amazing Love’. Order your Prayer Handbook here.
