While grateful for the advances in technology which have allowed many people to remain connected during the pandemic, United Reformed Church Related Community Worker, Jo Patterson, says we must be careful not to exclude those who do not have access to the internet or adequate technology.
Based at Copleston Church and Community Centre in Peckham, London, Jo says: “It may seem arduous to create multiple forms of communication but it’s essential that everyone has a voice and feels part of a community.”
While half of the Copleston community has internet access, the other half does not.
In a reflection entitled ‘Digital exclusion feeds inequality – we must give the same opportunities to all’ Jo explains how the Copleston community keeps in touch with everyone.
