The Methodist Diaconal Order

The Methodist Diaconal Order have a new magazine ‘Keep Calm and Carry on Serving’ available from their Pastoral Centre at Methodist Church House. Please contact mdosupport@methodistchurch.org.uk if you would like to receive a copy. Their new video ‘Exploring the Diaconal Order’ highlights the work of Deacons, particularly in relation to how Deacons enable the Church to live out Our Calling.

World Day of Prayer (WDP) is the largest ecumenical movement in the world. There is an opportunity for a Methodist woman to be a representative of the English Methodist Churches on the National WDP Committee for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Annual Methodist Research Conference
|
The fourth Annual Methodist Research Conference will take place on 12 June at Southlands College, London. The conference has become an annual event which offers opportunities for Methodist researchers and those engaged in Methodist-related research to present papers and share their insights. The Sound of Silence is a district day to explore and reflect on the Cistercian tradition and the life and writings of Aelred, abbot of Rievaulx, North Yorkshire. The event will take place on 20 July, 10am – 4pm at the Methodist chapel in Rievaulx with admission to the Abbey. The day will be led by the Revd Dr Kenneth Carveley, The cost is £5. OneSound is running a residential summer school for 11-18 year olds at Dearne Valley Outward Bound Activity Centre, Doncaster from 31 July – 3 August. Their summer school will offer a chance to experience singing together, workshops and worship. Tickets are available here.

Allchurches Trust has launched a new grants programme, Growing Lives, aimed at helping churches and Christian organisations in the UK and Ireland connect with young people. Grants of up to £25,000 are available, and the amount you receive will depend upon the cost of your project and need in your community. Physic Garden Celebration
|
In 1747 John Wesley published his ‘Primitive Physic’, a book featuring cures for every day ailments that were made from plants or easily available ingredients. This year Wesley Chapel planted a new Physic Garden Trail that features plants from the book. Celebrate and learn more about this fascinating aspect of John Wesley’s life on 8 June, 11am – 3pm at John Wesley’s House, London.

‘Thinking Lunch’ will be on 6 June,12.30pm – 1.30pm at Marlborough Road Methodist Church, St Albans. His Eminence Archbishop Angaelos, the Coptic Orthodox Archbishop of London will be speaking on ‘Christian Witness in the face of challenge’. Tea and coffee will be provided.
