Church of England responds to criticism over zero-hour contracts

Welby speaking banner 2A United Reformed Church minister has revealed he was employed on a zero-hour contract after the Archbishop of Canterbury crticised their use.

In a speech at a Trades Union Congress conference (TUC) in Manchester earlier this week, the Most Revd Justin Welby said zero-hour contracts were ‘nothing new’ but a ‘reincarnation of an ancient evil’.

But, in a letter to The Times, the Revd Ray Anglesea, Minister of Crook LEP St Andrews’s, Co Durham, revealed he had been employed by the Church of England in a cathedral bookshop on a zero-hour contract.
