Thy Kingdom Come

Thy Kingdom Come the global wave of prayer starts today, Ascension Day, and runs until Pentecost on 9 June. Special Methodist resources and prayers for Thy Kingdom Come are available from our website. The Revd Hilary Cooke has written a service especially commissioned by the Methodist Church. The novena ‘I hear you differently!’ is written by the Revd Dr Barbara C Glasson, President-Designate of the Methodist Conference.

A Bright Succession

The conference entitled ‘A Bright Succession’, referencing the hymn sung at Methodist ordinations, will explore the legacy of Susanna Wesley. It will touch on a range of issues linking gender, heritage and faith. ‘A Bright Succession’ takes place from 12-14 July at the University of Lincoln. Guest speakers include Professor Charles Wallace and the Revd Dr Barbara Glasson. Trafalgar Square Pentecost Celebration

You are invited to the Trafalgar Square Pentecost celebration on 9 June in London. The event will mark the culmination of Thy Kingdom Come 2019. The event takes place from 12 noon and includes activities for children, Bible readings, prayer and worship.Trey Hall, Director of Evangelism & Growth will be speaking.

Eco Church award

Stratford-Upon-Avon Methodist Church, has become the first Methodist Church in the country to receive a Gold Eco Church award. The award recognises the top level of achievement as part of environmental charity A Rocha’s Eco Church scheme, which encourages churches to take action for the environment. Read the full press release. They will receive their award on Environment Sunday, 2 June.

Talking of God Together survey

If you used the Talking of God Together resource we’d love to hear your feedback. If you have not completed the survey yet, you can do so here. Please feel free to share it wherever you think appropriate. Talking of God Together helps people to take part in conversations with others, both inside and outside their church, about what really matters to them.

Rural Mission Sunday

Rural Mission Sunday on 14 July is an opportunity to celebrate the life of the rural church. Germinate: The Arthur Rank Centre has worked with ecumenical partners and organisations including Messy Church and CPO to produce a range of materials to help you celebrate your rural church and community. Register before 1 June and you’ll receive a free copy of their magazine ‘Country Way’ which contains resources for rural churches.

Bible Month

For Bible Month 2019, Professor James Dunn has written a guide to the Letter to the Colossians, drawing out themes and preaching points, as well as offering suggestions about how to discuss the letter in groups. The resource is broken down for use over four weeks. A list of hymn suggestions if you are running Bible month is available on the Singing the Faith Plus website.

Reflections

In the coming week, the 2018/2019 Methodist Prayer Handbook, ‘A World Transformed, encourages us to pray with Christians in Africa, as well as Britain and Ireland. The theme for next week’s A Word in Time Bible studies is ‘The Promised Spirit’. Order your Prayer Handbook here.

Parliament

UK parliament is in recess and returns on 4 June.

Recess for the National Assembly for Wales is from 27 May – Sunday 2 June.
