The Week Ahead

Hello everyone and welcome to ‘The Week Ahead’ from the Methodist Conference in Birmingham.

Today, Thursday 4 July, was the final day of the Conference until it reconvenes again next year. So here are highlights from the past week.

Presidential addresses 

The address of the new President of the Methodist Conference, the Revd Dr Barbara Glasson, reflected on ‘stories’. Professor Clive Marsh, the new Vice-President of the Methodist Conference reflected on ‘pleasure, piety and politics’.

Election of the designates

The Methodist Conference has elected the Revd Richard Teal to serve as President and Carolyn Lawrence to serve as Vice-President, starting their year of office when the Representative Session of the Methodist Conference meets in Telford next year. Read more here.

3Generate

The Methodist Youth President, Jasmine Yeboah, told the Methodist Conference about 3Generate and encouraged young people to be courageous for Christ.

#MethodistConf

If you weren’t able to attend the Conference this year, or wanted to catch up on a particular item of business, you can watch sessions from the Conference online here. These will be available to stream through the website for one month only.

Marriage and Relationships

The Conference debated on Monday 1 July and Wednesday 3 July, the report, “God In Love Unites Us”. The report was commended to District Synods for prayerful discussion. For more information, click here.

Jasmine Yeboah, Youth President of the Methodist Church, has reflected on her presidential theme at the Methodist Conference, encouraging young people to step outside of their comfort zone to do something courageous for Christ.

Reflections

In the coming week, the 2018/2019 Methodist Prayer Handbook, ‘A World Transformed, encourages us to pray with Christians in Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean as well as Britain and Ireland.
