Prayers for Sri Lanka 

Following the horrific attacks on worshippers, hotel staff and guests in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday we offer our prayers. Read the joint statement by the Bishops of Colombo and Kurunagala of the Church of Ceylon.

Interfaith prayer vigil for Sri Lanka

All are invited to pray in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka. An interfaith prayer vigil will take place at West London Mission, Hinde Street on 27 April at 2.00pm. Prior to the service, there will be a peace walk from Westminster to the West London Mission and then on to the Sri Lanka High Commission. The peace walkers will gather from 10.00am and move off at noon.

Methodist Modern Art Collection

The Methodist Modern Art Collection is at Leicester from 2 May with the Wondering Soul exhibition. This is the last chance to see the exhibition before it will be removed from public display for several months to undergo major rejuvenation work.

Thy Kingdom Come resources 

Resources and prayers for Thy Kingdom Come are now available from our website. The Revd Hilary Cooke has written a service especially commissioned by the Methodist Church. The novena ‘I hear you differently!’ is written by the Revd Dr Barbara C Glasson. Copies will be distributed to all districts. Youth-President Jasmine Yeboah’s video on ‘Praise’ will be available to preview from Monday 29 April.

Children’s Future Food Inquiry 

Four million children in the UK live in households where a healthy diet is unaffordable. The Children’s Future Food Inquiry launched its final report today with their policy recommendations.

Mental Health Awareness week

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place 13-19 May. Methodist Publishing have resources to help you stay mentally healthy, to invest in your well-being and offer spiritual reflection including the Geoffrey Baine’s mindful colouring book ‘Slow Journeys in the Same Direction’.

Methodist Central Hall, Manchester

Methodist Central Hall, Manchester are seeking new trustees to develop the vision and a ten year strategic plan. Trustees must be members of the Methodist Church and will work on a voluntary basis. The deadline is 5.00pm on 1 June 2019. For more information please contact: MCHtrustees@gmail.com

Methodist TV and Radio 

The Vice-President of the Methodist Conference, Bala Gnanapragasam, will be on BBC local radio stations across the UK this Sunday morning to talk about the recent attacks in Sri Lanka.

Jude Levermore, the new Head of Mission at the Methodist Church, will be on BBC Radio Oxford on Sunday morning at 8:40 to discuss her role.

Reflections

In the coming week, the 2018/2019 Methodist Prayer Handbook, ‘A World Transformed, encourages us to pray with Christians in Europe and Africa, as well as Britain and Ireland. The theme for next week’s A Word in Time Bible studies is ‘The Wisdom of the Cross’. Order your Prayer Handbook here.
