New Places for New People grants

A new ‘Our Calling’ fund’ has been launched by the Connexional Team to help start new, Christian communities. Churches and circuits are invited to apply for grants of between £100 and £1500. The New Places for New People grants are available for new types of worship and new churches, to create Christian communities and explore new ideas, especially those that provide outreach to non-Christians and for church planting or pioneering with people from poorer communities or those under 25 years old. Worship and Engagement in Later Life

This autumn, MHA are running training days for those leading worship and providing pastoral care for older people in a variety of settings including churches, retirement accommodation and other locations. You can discover how older people, including those living with dementia, can be positively drawn into worship. There are six workshops taking place at various locations. MMHS prayer guide

The Methodist Ministers’ Housing Society (MMHS) has produced a new resource to help pray for those longing for a home, including the UK’s 320,000 homeless and 69 million displaced people worldwide. The new resource, Octave, raises awareness of housing needs and offers prayers not only for MMHS residents, staff and board members – but also for carers, homeless people, refugees and housing policy makers. Volunteer for 3Generate 

The phenomenal growth of 3Generate will see around 1,200 young people joining together in Southport over the weekend 22- 24 November. You can discover the positive impact that the weekend has on the volunteers who make the event possible with these short videos and consider what your gifts could bring by taking part.

Circuit Stewards’ Handbook and Training

The Circuit Stewards’ Handbook and Training materials are now available to download from the website. The handbook and materials are amended annually, any recommendations should be sent to mvw@methodistchurch.org.uk

Catholic and Methodist social action

A theological action research project for the Southlands Methodist Trust and TARN Centre at the University of Roehampton is researching Catholic and Methodist engagement in social action. If you have information on this research area, please contact James Butler on james.butler@roehampton.ac.uk.

Churches Welcoming Refugees

Welcome Churches is hosting ‘Churches Welcoming Refugees’ on 12 October at St James’ Clerkenwell, London. This day is for churches across the UK who want to be practically equipped and resourced to grow their ministry amongst refugees.The event includes seminars on discipleship, integration, care and legal help. Book here.

This Sunday’s Song of Praise, includes a short interview with the Methodist Church’s Director of Evangelism and Growth, Trey Hall, filmed at the Christian family festival, Thy Kingdom Come in Trafalgar Square.

In the coming week, the 2018/2019 Methodist Prayer Handbook, ‘A World Transformed, encourages us to pray with Christians in Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean, as well as Britain and Ireland.
