Drag Queens raise money for Cardiff church

Dragged to church news banner credit Richard Williams Media WalesThe drag community will once again come together to raise money for St Andrew’s United Reformed Church in Roath, Cardiff.

The previous events, which are sponsored by CPS Homes, have so far raised more than £12,000 with the first event taking place in December 2018.

St Andrew’s United Reformed Church (URC) on Wellfield Road, built in 1898 needs to raise funds for its long term project of much needed repair work for many parts of the building to be able to continue supporting its congregation as well as the support it gives to many community groups.

Faith leaders urge Priti Patel to scrap controversial bill

Police credit Ehimetalor Akhere UnsplashReligious, faith and belief groups have urged the government to rethink the controversial Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill. 

In a scathing letter, published in the Independent on 26 October, dozens of leaders, including the Revd Clare Downing, Moderator of the United Reformed Church General Assembly, warn of the “chilling effect” the Bill could have on “millions who put their faith or belief into practice” and declare it ‘unacceptable in a democratic society.’

Pray4URC – Thursday evenings at 8.15pm from 28 October

Pray4URCThe Group for Evangelism and Renewal (GEAR) is hosting another short series of live online prayer meetings in the run up to Assembly Executive (the new name for Mission Council) which is taking place at High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon, from 22-24 November.

Pray4URC will run on Thursday evenings at 8.15pm for four weeks, starting on 28 October.

Local churches receive £2m funding boost

Saltaire URC 2 credit National Churches TrustMajor repairs at Saltaire United Reformed Church (URC) in Yorkshire, a Grade I listed building that sits within Saltaire World Heritage site, will be enabled thanks to a grant of £2million from the National Churches Trust.

Saltire URC is one of 15 historic churches and Quaker meetings houses that will share the funding from the Heritage Stimulus Fund — part of the government’s Culture Recovery Fund.
